Alumni Feature: Andraya Colistro

We catch up with a recent graduate, Andraya Colistro, who came to the Aquaculture program from Ontario!

What motivated you to pursue the program?

When I graduated from my undergrad in Ontario, I was very interested in agriculture and marine biology. So, I knew I would have to leave my small town and hit the coast. I heard about Aquaculture at UBC and I realized it was my two interests in one program! I was so excited to learn about aquaculture since I knew nothing about it before the program, and as the days went on and my assignments piled up, I knew that this was the program I wanted to be in. And, I could see myself doing this as a career!

How has the program helped further your career?

UBC is very focused on networking and leaving you with connections when you graduate your program. I am from Ontario and my professors were able to connect me with people in my province and my field to help me find a job at home! Without them, I would have no idea where to start in finding a job.

What are your next steps?

Work hard, have fun, and farm fish! At the moment, I am looking for work at smaller farms in my area, but eventually I would like to move up and work at the government level. Hopefully one day I can return back to Vancouver!
